ADVENT DAY TWENTY FOUR

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

he will wipe away every tear

At Christmas we celebrate Jesus' first coming as a baby, when He came to be our Rescuer and Redeemer, our Healer and our Comforter. But we also anticipate His second coming, when He will wipe away all the tears, all the sadness, all the pain, all the brokenness, and all the death.

The moment when "'all tears shall be wiped away'; no signs, no remembrance of former sorrows shall remain, any further than to make their present felicity the greater. God himself, as their tender Father, with his own kind hand, shall wipe away the tears of his children." Matthew Henry's Commentary

If your heart is aching this Christmas season, know this truth with certainty: there will be a day when your Father will heal all that aches. A day when He will fully restore all that has been broken. And that truth gives a sweet hope and a reason to celebrate this Christmas no matter how broken we may feel, because without Jesus' first coming we could not anticipate the day when He would wipe all our tears away.

the promise

One day He will return and on that day, He will wipe away all the tears. He will crush death. He will restore all that has been broken, make it all new and remove all reasons for grief, for mourning, for crying and pain. There will be no more suffering.

prayer

Father, thank You for giving my aching heart a reason to hope today. Thank you for the promise that You will one day wipe away all the tears, that You will crush death and suffering and pain and sorrow. Thank you for the promise that You will one day make all things new and will restore all that has been broken.
