To the Mom Grieving a Stillborn Baby

by Morgan Golding

Dear momma of a stillborn,

I see you and I know what you’re going through because I’ve been there. I understand you are walking through the deepest pain a momma will ever know. I understand the sleepless nights, the screaming on the floor, the endless tears in the shower, the milk you have to learn how to dry up. And I am so, so sorry.

I hope you know that you are not alone — even if you feel invisible. I hope you know that you are strong even in your weakest moments. I hope you know that you are a mother. You are a good mother.

I want you to know that the waves of grief do slow down — you won’t always feel like you are drowning — but not because the grief is gone but because you learn to grow with it. I want you to know that you are different because of your loss. So many people won’t understand, and some people might walk away, but there is an incredible group of women who do understand. It is a crappy club to be in but it’s also amazing. It’s an unspoken bond that will last until the final trumpet sounds and the sting of death is no more and we get to see our babies again.

Motherhood is a sacred gift, a calling. And my friend, I believe we have the hardest calling of mothering our babies in heaven. It’s a lifelong journey we will always be learning. But oh what a glorious day when we get to hold our babies again. Until Jesus calls us home.

Love,
a momma who understands

About Morgan
My name is Morgan and I live in Greenville, SC with my Australian husband Corey and our 2 crazy Aussie pups. Our daughter, Emmy Hope, was born into heaven in August of 2021 at 39 weeks and 5 days due to a nuchal cord injury. We are hopefully (and not going to lie, anxiously) expecting her sister in August of 2022.  I am a RN at night and I have found a new love for pottery during the day that has been so healing for me in this time. My goal is to create pieces to send to other loss mommas one day.
